Beacon Benefits from Brains

The Wolverhampton Law Society and Walsall Law Association joined forces in February once again for the Annual Charity Quiz.

Some of the brightest legal (and other) brains battled it out for the distinction of being the Black Country's best.

Winners on the night were FBC Manby Bowdler with Wolverhampton University Law School second and Richard Ennis and his President's team third.

The overall winners, however, were Beacon Centre for the Blind with the event raising £555.00p for the Charity.

A big thank you  to all who organised and supported the event and to sponsors Wesleyan

Derby win away at Wolves

The first round of the Oxford University Press National Mooting Competition saw a team from Wolverhampton University take on Derby in a home fixture.

Sitting as a single Judge "Court of Appeal" Wolverhampton Law Society President Richard Ennis resisted the temptation to strike out Derby's case after a delayed train saw them turn up late for the hearing.

Speaking after the event Richard said:-

"I heard legal argument concerning a contractual dispute involving a million pound diamond tiara the property of one "Camilla Windsor", who had entrusted the encrusted to "Diamond Geezers LTD" a company claiming to specialise in renovating such items. When Geezers damaged the valuable heirloom litigation followed.

In the event I allowed the Appeal but awarded the tie to Derby. I was impressed by the standard of advocacy from both teams so Wolves fans should not feel disheartened by the result."
